Giving every child a healthy start to a hopeful future

World Health Day 2025

Today, on World Health Day, the whole world gathers around the theme: “Healthy beginnings, hopeful futures”.

At Zanmi Lasante, this isn’t a slogan. It’s a reality we defend every day, in our health centers, in the most isolated rural areas, and in our referral hospitals.

In a country where women often face pregnancy alone, where distance, cost and insecurity hinder access to care, we have made the choice to place maternal and neonatal health at the heart of our action. We support pregnancies from the very first weeks. We facilitate safe deliveries. We provide comprehensive postnatal follow-up.

Through our Journey to 9 Plus program, we offer comprehensive support: prenatal group consultations, home visits, psychosocial support and maternity care. This model transforms pregnancy into a humane, continuous and reassuring care pathway - for mothers and babies alike.

But this fight for life, for hope, cannot rest solely on the bravery of mothers and the determination of caregivers. We need a solid system that doesn’t bend under pressure, that doesn’t collapse in the face of crises. The current context in Haiti, marked by insecurity, instability and deteriorating infrastructure, threatens to undo years of hard-won progress.

This is why our hospitals and centers must remain sanctuaries. Places where life is protected, regardless of origin, religion or financial situation. Places where care is given unconditionally, with dignity and respect.

What we are defending today is a commitment to the future.

A future in which being born in Haiti will no longer be a risk, but a promise; a future in which healthcare is a right, not a privilege; a future we must build, together.

World Health Day 2025 - A Healthy Start for a Future Full of Hope

Today, on World Health Day, the world unites around the theme: “Healthy beginnings, hopeful futures.”

At Zanmi Lasante, this isn’t just a theme, it’s our daily reality. In clinics, rural health centers, and teaching hospitals, we work to ensure every birth in Haiti is safe, supported, and dignified.

In a country where many women face pregnancy alone, locked by poverty, distance, or insecurity, we’ve made maternal and newborn health a central priority. From early prenatal visits to skilled deliveries and full postpartum support, we walk alongside mothers and babies every step of the way.

Our Journey to 9 Plus program provides group prenatal care, home visits, psychosocial support, and safe hospital delivery, transforming pregnancy into a journey of care, trust, and connection.

But this fight for life and for hope cannot rest solely on the courage of mothers or the dedication of health workers. We need a system strong enough to resist collapse, even in times of crisis. Today’s instability in Haiti threatens to undo years of progress and weaken the very structures that protect life.

That’s why our hospitals and clinics must remain sanctuaries, places where life is protected regardless of someone’s faith, origin, or financial situation. Where dignity isn’t negotiable. Where care is unconditional.

What we’re fighting for is a promise to the future.

A future where being born in Haiti isn’t a risk, but a right. A future where care is not a privilege, but a given. A future we must build together.
