The Thomonde Oxygen Production Center has the capacity to produce up to 100 cylinders of oxygen per day, and will significantly improve emergency response capabilities, the quality of care for neonatal, chronic and acute conditions, and reduce mortality rates. The installation is expected to benefit all ZL sites in Bas-Artibonite and Plateau Central, requiring an average of 850 cylinders of oxygen per month.

Local oxygen production will reduce the costs associated with purchasing and transporting oxygen cylinders, enabling ZL to reallocate resources to other critical areas. The center operates 24 hours a day, with staff split into three shifts, providing employment opportunities for the local community.

ZL plans to expand the network to establish further oxygen production centers at key sites, ensuring a reliable and continuous supply of oxygen for all healthcare needs. The management of the Thomonde Health Center has been integral to the success of the project, participating actively in the planning and development stages. The involvement of the local community ensures that the plant meets the specific needs of the region, fostering a sense of ownership and sustainability.

Dr. Wesler Lambert , Directeur éxécutif de Zanmi Lasante

The MSPP representative, Dr. Wolve Irvens Charles, added: “This new oxygen plant clarifies very well the sincerity and transparency that exists in the collaboration between the MSPP and Zanmi Lasante. According to the partnership principle, let’s make sure that together this new Oxygen Production Center increasing the first 3 will contribute to a high proportion of oxygen production that can meet not only the need of the department’s regions and why not other regions of the country.”

Zanmi Lasante is committed to making its network fully self-sufficient in oxygen supply, thereby increasing its ability to provide essential healthcare services. Strategic expansion plans demonstrate ZL’s commitment to improving healthcare outcomes and ensuring the well-being of the Haitian community.
