A Direct, Tangible Impact on Communities

Quand l’espoir arrive avec un kit alimentaire

Wed, Mar 26 2025

Early on the morning of Friday, February 28, 2025, beneficiaries from various communal sections of Lascahobas converged on the Zanmi Lasante hospital in Lacolline. Among them, some had walked up to six hours from Petit-Fond to receive their food kit, an essential aid in a context of great vulnerability.

Haiti is going through a particularly difficult period, marked by a persistent economic crisis, growing food insecurity and increasingly limited access to basic services for many families. In this context, the intervention of organizations such as the Fonds d’Assistance Économique et Sociale (FAES) and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) is crucial to guaranteeing assistance to the most fragile populations.

This distribution is part of the Program to Strengthen Safety Nets for Vulnerable Populations, financed by FAES and supported by the IDB. This Haitian government initiative aims to improve access to healthcare and social assistance, with an emphasis on supporting families living in remote areas and in precarious situations.

Launched on Monday February 24, the distribution operation took place over several days, enabling a large number of beneficiaries to be served. On the very first day, 63 people were served, followed by 119 on Tuesday, 70 on Wednesday and 97 on Thursday. On Friday February 28, the last day, 24 additional beneficiaries received their kits, bringing the total to several hundred families supported in this first phase of distribution.

The beneficiaries expressed their relief and satisfaction at receiving these kits, which will enable them to feed their families for several days. Many emphasized the importance of these distributions and hope to see the initiative continue.

As part of this program, 28,000 food kits will be distributed across the country, each developed according to the nutritional recommendations of the Ministry of Public Health and Population (MSPP). Each kit, valued at USD 25, offers immediate support to families in difficulty and helps boost food security in the targeted regions.

Thanks to the support of the IDB and FAST, this initiative is playing a key role in the fight against hunger in Haiti, bringing concrete help to thousands of families facing daily uncertainty. These distributions, already underway in other areas such as Saint-Marc, Thomonde and Boucan Carré, demonstrate the importance of effective coordination and a strong commitment to meeting the most urgent needs.

As the initiative continues, it underscores the impact of collective efforts in strengthening the resilience of vulnerable communities and the need to continue developing sustainable solutions to the country’s socio-economic challenges.
