Dr. Fritz Verly Vernet receives prestigious "Physician Educator" award from ACGME-I

A tribute to excellence in medical training and mentoring at Zanmi Lasante

Zanmi Lasante is proud to announce that Dr. Fritz Verly Vernet, Director of Medical Education and Director of the Internal Medicine Residency Program at the Hôpital Universitaire de Mirebalais (HUM) in Haiti, as well as Coordinator of the Nephrology Program at Zanmi Lasante, has been honored with the prestigious “Physician Educator” award by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education International (ACGME-I). This outstanding distinction recognizes Dr. Vernet’s unwavering commitment to medical education, his talent as a mentor, and his ongoing efforts to shape the next generation of healthcare professionals.

Dr. Vernet has long been a mainstay of Zanmi Lasante’s medical training programs. Known for his great sensitivity to the needs of residents and fellows, he has created an environment conducive to promoting professionalism, excellence and ethical values. His leadership and innovative approach to medical education have inspired colleagues and students alike, while raising the standards of internal medicine at HUM. Dr. Vernet was instrumental in achieving ACGME-I accreditation for the Internal Medicine program, the first in the Caribbean region to receive this distinction.

In receiving the ACGME-I Physician Educator Award, Dr. Vernet joins an elite group of medical educators around the world recognized for their commitment to advancing graduate medical education. “This award is a testament to Dr. Vernet’s impact, not only within Zanmi Lasante, but also in the international outreach of medical education,” said Dr. Ornella Sainterant, Director of Medical Education at Zanmi Lasante. “He has demonstrated leadership, team spirit, intellectual curiosity and resilience throughout his career, and we are extremely proud to have him as a collaborator.”

As co-founder of the Global MedEd Network, Dr. Vernet is committed to providing medical education to low- and middle-income countries, demonstrating his influence on a global scale.
